Learning Asian Culture:

A TV Conference between Indonesia and Japanese Students


Date:  Monday, February 9, 2015.
Time:13:30 to 15:30 (11:30-13:30 Indonesian Standard Time)

Purpose:
The general purpose of our project is to encourage students to learn and appreciate how other cultures have connections with their own across historical differences and language barriers. They would learn about these connections through showing some cultural activities or issues they are actively engaged in in their respective countries. It is hoped that they will exchange information, experiences and views on these with foreign students through a television conference. The proposed presentation and discussions obviously will not take place in completely flawless, standardized English but with an English language flavored with the indigenous cultural influences of the students' respective countries.

Plan:
In the joint project between your university and ours, a group of two to five students will present their summary of traditional culture in a TV conference, followed by a forty-minute discussion between the Indonesian and Japanese students.

The general purpose of our project is to encourage students to learn and appreciate how other cultures have innate connections with their own across historical differences and language barriers.   They should learn these connections through showing the traditional performing arts they have actively practiced in their respective countries.  Moreover, they are expected to exchange their views on these matters with foreign students through a television conference.  The presentation of their arts, views, and discussions obviously will not take place in completely flawless, standardized English but with an English language flavored with the indigenous cultural influences of the students' respective countries.

Plan:
In the joint project between your university and ours, a group of two to five students will present their summary of the traditional performing arts in a TV conference, followed by a forty-minute discussion between the Laos and Japanese students.  The prospective date of the TV conference is from 12:00 to 14:00 (10:00-12:00 Laos Standard Time) Friday, May 30, 2013.

■日本e-Learning学会学術講演会での優秀賞・受賞 ■

「アジアの学生間交流を通じたテレビ会議における効果的手法と有効な協働学習」

●発表の趣旨●
英語学習にTV会議システムを効果的に導入するプログラムを、これまでの8回に渡る交流実績から構築しました。このプログラムでは、参加者は英語力養成はもちろんのこと、課題基盤型学習と協調学習という形態で、共創する力を学びます。

■テーマ■新学科のグローバル人材化方略
■趣旨■グローバル人材育成教育が様々な大学で行われており、中部地区でも複数の大学が育成教育に本格的に参入しています。ただ提供するのは大学であっても、学生を育てるためのプログラムを設計し、実施に移すのは、教員です。設計し実施する教員には、献身・責任・教授技法・学生と向き合い・動機付けが求められています。これは、英語では、Dedication, Responsibility, Education, Attitude, Motivation、頭文字をとれば「夢」DREAMとなります。設計・実践している大学の教員から人材教育が正夢になるための仕掛けを伺い、参加者とともに議論します。また本会そのものもひとつの仕掛けを試みます。夢の商品を学生グループが考え、1分間のコマーシャル動画としてまとめ、当日、動画を含めた3分間プレゼンを行い、競い合います。こうして本会は、正夢への一歩といたします。

グローバル人材育成プログラム構築のシンポジウムのご案内

Dear colleagues,

The number of Asian students undertakingstudy in British and American universities has increased rapidly, but amid thecry for cultivation of globally oriented personnel the popular trend has beenfor Japanese students to study at local universities and spend their entirecareers within Japan.

We believe the main reason for this inwardlooking tendency is that students have not had opportunities to express themselvesin English and to have people of other cultures listen to them and understandthem, so that the will to step out into the world has withered.

In order to develop an outward-lookingspirit, for seven years we have been using a video conferencing system to facilitatecommunicative exchange with students of other Asian universities. Here we wouldlike to present some of the outcomes of the ongoing project and invite those inuniversities and industry concerned with fostering globally-oriented personnelto share their opinions and ideas on the subject.

It is hoped that this symposium will alsoprovide an open forum for teachers with a desire to foster in students thecourage to step out into the world.

We would be delighted if you would come totake part.
